- English / pinyin map of Shanghai can be purchased at any subway newsstand or bookstore. Be sure to get a subway (known as the Metro) map too.
- Guanxi - 85887 - SMS to find contact info for restaurants, hotels, etc. Always proceed your query with the digit 2; for example "2Hyatt"
- Taxi Cards: available at check-out lines at City Supermarkets and at every Metro station. These can be used to pay for taxis, the Metro and bus. You can add money at any Metro station.

- China Helpline in English and German: 4008 808080 On-the-phone translation service. Sign up at www.chinahelpline.com
- Shanghai Call Center: 962288 - a 24-hour helpline in English providing info on Shanghai services, culture, entertainment, education, and hospitals; they can arrange delivery of theatre tickets too. This service is provided by the Shanghai government.
